Caring for Seasonal and Nasal Allergies with Acupuncture

Treating Nasal Allergies with Acupuncture

Treating Seasonal and nasal Allergies with Acupuncture is something suffers should consider.  We had a long winter.  However the Spring is coming fast.  This is the time the allergies come out and cause discomfort to a big segment of the population, (around 40-60 million).  Nasal allergies are the most common. Seasonal allergies happens when airborne substances, like pollen, are exposed to us.  They can cause itchy skin and eyes, running nose, and sneezing.  Nasal allergies (Allergic Rhinitis) is a nasal mucosa inflammatory disorder. It has the same symptoms of seasonal allergies but also produces rhinorrhea, which is a clear nasal discharge.  People suffering from nasal allergies also have difficulty with focusing and concentration, sleep disorders, fatigue and Irritability.  Their quality of life is reduced.  Treatment usually involves antihistamines or corticosteriods.  These treatments can have bad side effects.  A recent study at Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated Hospital conducted a meta-analysis of about 30 independent clinical trials with a sample size of 2602 patients with allergic rhinitis.  When the study was completed the researchers and investigators concluded that: “Acupuncture, either used alone, or in combination with other treatments such as Moxibustion, herbal medicine or western medicine, were proven to have both short and long term clinical benefits to allergic rhinitis suffers.” (Tang et al).  So as an alternative treatment, that has clinical based proof, this would be a great way to avoid the bad side effects of medications.  At Breakthrough Wellness Center, our acupuncturist, Yoosan Lee, has been treating allergies with acupuncture for years.  What ever the mechanism that is causing the allergies is, or whether it is Spring, Summer or Fall, Yoosan gets great results with his care.  This is one of the many conditions treated here with Acupuncture.  If you would like to find out what else we treat, or if you have allergies please give us a call. We are always happy to help and, as our slogan says,” leave no stone un-turned to get you out of pain!”
